Question 3 – What kind of media institution might distribute your media product?
  1. Our film opening is a thriller/horror genre and so I have been exploring the different media institutions that may distribute our product, despite the low budget and lack of tools such as microphones, expensive cameras, lighting and sets, our film opening follows an interesting plot based on a real life thriller, we have considered institutions such as Universal pictures, 20th century fox, Warner Brothers & Hammer Studios. I will also discuss a few other forms of distributing our media product that will market and advertise our opening further.
    1. Online Media products such as You tube and other online video sharing websites such as blip.tv are very commonly used to distribute smaller movies and would be perfect for distributing our horror movie. Our opening has been uploaded to you tube and now thousands of people can access the video and it can be shared through a wide range of social networks such as Facebook and twitter which would make our opening of Porcelain very well known, This is a good example of symbiotic marketing and helping our media product go viral. For example one of the lowest budget films ended up with a huge $193.4 million box office. This was paranormal activity which was so successful due to the online marketing campaign through you tube being shared to Facebook, twitter and by teaming up with other production distributors such as ‘eventful.com’ made the hype of paranormal activity even greater – consequenting in the most incredible returns on investment in film history.
      1. Universal pictures also known as universal studios is an American film studio that distributes films world wide, for example it has released a wide range of thriller or horror movies such as ‘The Purge: Anarchy’, ‘Lucy’ and ‘Devil’ this would be ideal to release the film Porcelain due to its wide range of experience and it releases a wide range of films high budget and low budget world wide.
        1. 20th century fox is a well known American film studio, distributor and one of the six major American film studios. It releases a huge amount of high budget films all around the world and has released some of the most famous films in medias history such as ‘Avatar’ however there movie focus is targeted at family films rather than horror or thriller and so I don’t think this will be suitable for distributing our film ‘Porcelain’ since our film is a low budget thriller/horror which doesn’t fit the specification of 20th century fox very well.
          1. Warner Bros is an american media company that makes film, television and music entertainment and has a huge line of subsidiary companies including ‘Warner Bros Animation’ ‘Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment’ ‘New Line Cinema’ and ‘Warner Bros Television’. However Warner bros has a huge line of thrillers such as Harry Potter films, ‘American Sniper’, ‘The Dark Night Rises’ and ‘I am Legend’. This would be suitable for releasing Porcelain due to its range of high and low budget films and wide range of genres however most films that are released by Warner bros are targeted at families and I think our film opening is not very family orientated. Warner Bros is an american media company that makes film, television and music entertainment and has a huge line of subsidiary companies including ‘Warner Bros Animation’ ‘Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment’ ‘New Line Cinema’ and ‘Warner Bros Television’. However Warner bros has a huge line of thrillers such as Harry Potter films, ‘American Sn
            1. Hammer Films or Hammer Pictures is a British film production company based in London. This institution is best known for gothic “Hammer Horror” which I think our film Porcelain could fit into very well. Hammer Pictures has produced the films ‘Let Me In’(2010), ‘The Resident’(2011) and ‘The Woman In Black’(2012). This institution distributes low budget horrors which is ideal for our film opening and I think this institution is ideal for our opening.
              1. In conclusion I think the most successful way of distributing our film is to upload teaser trailers to YouTube and make it known through online media and marketing campaigns. I think the most suitable distribution institution would be Hammer Pictures due to there experience in horror movies, I also think by using a distributor in London is more suitable and realistic that would be more suited to our low budget and can enhance the horror genre more.
