Most Christians are against
Euthanasia. They argue that life
is given by God, and that humans
are made in Gods image. Some
Churches emphasise the
importance of not interfering
with the natural process of
death.
Christians believe that:
The process of dying is
spiritual and should not be
interfered with
All human live are
equally valuable
Human beings are valuable
because they are made in
Gods image
Life is a gift from God
Although most Christians are against
Euthanasia, some Christians believe that
there are obligations that go against the
general view that Euthanasia is a bad
thing. They believe that Christianity
requires them to respect every human
being, no matter how rational their
decision may be.
Islamic View
Muslims are against Euthanasia. They
believe that as human life is given by Allah,
it is scared, and that Allah decides how
long each person should live. Therefor,
they believe that human beings should not
interfere with this. They also believe that if
a person is suffering, they should ask Allah
for help.
Hinduism
View
There are several Hinduism
views on Euthanasia:
There are several hinduism views on
Euthanasia. Most Hindus believe that a doctor
should not accept a patients request for
euthanasia as this will cause a human being to
die at an unnatural time. They believe that the
result will damage karma on both the doctor
and the patient.
Other Hindus believe that
euthanasia should not be allowed
because it breaks the teachings of
ahimsa, which mean to do no
harm.
However, some Hindus believe that
helping a human being to end a painful
and stressful life, is in fact a good deed
and so they will be filling their duties.
Judaism View
Jews believe that the human life is one
supreme moral value and forbid
anything that may shorten life.
However, they believe that a doctor
should not make dying last longer than
it naturally would.
They forbid Euthanasia and
regard it as murder. There
are no exceptions to this
rule regardless of whether
or not the person
concerned wants to die.
They believe that it is wrong to shorten a
life, even if that life were to end very soon.
This is because they believe that every
moment of human life is valuable.
Ethical View
Does an individual
who has no hope of
recovery have the right
to decide how and
when to end their life?
Those in favour of Euthanasia argue that a
civilised society should allow people to die in
dignity and without pain, and should allow
others to help them do so if they can't manage it
on their own.
They say our body are our own, and we
should be allowed to do what we want
with them. So therefor it is wrong to
make anyone live longer if they don't
want to. Making people live longer than
want to, is in fact, taking away their
freedom and human rights.
They add that as suicide is
not a crime, therefore
euthanasia shouldn't be.
Atheist View
The general Atheist view is that the
religious thoughts on euthanasia are
appropriate for religious minded
people but should not be required for
the non-religious. Atheists generally
believe that part of the respect for
life is the right to die.
