Area and Surface Area- Area and Nets

1. Nets

   • clip 82 on maths watch
   • When drawing a net start off by drawing the base of the shape
     • (the bottom of the shape)
       • Then draw the sides which are attached to the base
         • Finally draw the top of the shape which will be attached to the other side of one of the bases
   • For each side of the shape visible in the diagram there will be a equally sized side across from it

2. Area

   • Clip 73 on mathswatch
   • Triangle
     • This is the formula for working out the area
     • <- questions for you to try
     • You just work out the area of a square and divide it by 2
   • Parallelogram
     • Area= base x height
     • Answer the question
   • Trapezium
     • Question for you to try
   • Compound Shape
     • When doing the area of a compound shape make sure to split the original shape up into smaller shapes
       • Then label them e.g. A and B
         • Work out the area of A and B
           • And add them together
