MUSCULAR SYSTEM - PAGES 76-77
  1. ANTAGONISTIC PAIRS
    1. skeletal muscles work together to provide movement of the joints.
      1. whilst one muscle contracts, other relaxes to create movement.
        1. Muscles working together like this ^ are called antagonistic pairs .. lol pears
          1. REMEMBER THIS PLZ!! - muscles are connected to bones by tendons.
            1. When muscles contract they pull on the tendon which pull on the bone. This creates MOVEMENT.
          2. Relaxing muscle = ANTAGONIST.
          3. BICEPS AND TRICEPS
            1. BICEPS
              1. front of upper arm.
                1. ROLE= flexion of arm @ elbow
                  1. EG - upwards phase of a bicep curl
                    1. During this movement the triceps is the ANTAGONIS - relaxes to allow biceps to contract
              2. TRICEPS
                1. Back of upper arm
                  1. ROLE= extension of arm @ elbow
                    1. EG - straightening the arms in a chest press.
                      1. bicep is antagonist - relaxes to let the triceps to contract
              3. QUADRICEPS AND HAMSTRINGS
                1. QUADRICEPS
                  1. front of upper leg.
                    1. ROLE = extension of leg at knee
                      1. EG - straightening the leading leg going over a hurdle
                  2. HAMSTRING
                    1. Back of upper leg
                      1. ROLE = flexion of upper leg at knee
                        1. EG - bending the trailing leg going over a hurdle
                  3. Skeletal muscles move the point at joints. words 2 use are :
                    1. flexion and extension
