skeletal muscles work together to provide movement of the joints.
whilst one muscle contracts, other relaxes to create movement.
Muscles working together like this ^ are called antagonistic pairs .. lol pears
REMEMBER THIS PLZ!! - muscles are connected to bones by tendons.
When muscles contract they pull on the tendon which pull on the bone. This creates MOVEMENT.
Relaxing muscle = ANTAGONIST.
BICEPS AND TRICEPS
BICEPS
front of upper arm.
ROLE= flexion of arm @ elbow
EG - upwards phase of a bicep curl
During this movement the triceps is the ANTAGONIS - relaxes to allow biceps to contract
TRICEPS
Back of upper arm
ROLE= extension of arm @ elbow
EG - straightening the arms in a chest press.
bicep is antagonist - relaxes to let the triceps to contract
QUADRICEPS AND HAMSTRINGS
QUADRICEPS
front of upper leg.
ROLE = extension of leg at knee
EG - straightening the leading leg going over a hurdle
HAMSTRING
Back of upper leg
ROLE = flexion of upper leg at knee
EG - bending the trailing leg going over a hurdle
