P1 Topic 1 Visible light and the solar system
The 2 theory's
early model (geocedntric)
The Earth is at the middle of the miklyway
this theory was supported by the church
heliocentric
the sun is at the center of the milkiyway
it replaced the Geocedntric in 1600's
this theory was proven by Galalio
what visible light can tell us about the universe
we can see things that are very far away because they five off light
like stars
we can see other planets in the universe because they reflect sunlight
most early discoverys were made by the naked eye
the discoverys more reresently were made by telescope
telescopes
they magnify images
make is so things can be seen in more ditail
they are telescopes on Earth but they are also in space but to put them there it is very expencive
using telescopes photos of the the universe can be taken
waves
All waves have wavelength, Frequency, ampiltude and speed,
WAVELENGTH=the distance from one peak to the next
FREQUENCY= how meany complete waves there are per-seconds, this is measured in Hz
AMPLITUDE= just the hight of the waves (from the mid-line to the peak)
The SPEED is how fast it goes
one important thing to remember is that waves transfer energy and information- without transferring matter.
There are two formulas for wave speed that you need to know
the first formula links speed, frequency and wavelength:
Speed (V id for velocity)
Speed= Frequency * wavelength
V= F * λ
Waves can be transveres or longitudinal
