  1. Characters
    1. Tris/Beatrice : Tris is a survivor, she is brave but her original faction is a place where you have to be selfless and help others. She is not a natural at doing this. She want's to be something different but doesn't know where to start. Roth uses a symbol of a bird tattoo to show that Tris is brave by facing her fears. Her brother inspires her to do things for people as a natural Abnegation would. This helps Tris to fit in with the rest of her faction without drawing attention to herself.
      1. Eric: Eric is one of the leaders of dauntless, who grew up in the faction, at the same time as Four. Four and Eric have always had tension between the two of them. Also, Eric dislikes Tris because she has a relationship with four later on in the story.
      2. Four/ Tobias: Four is very brave and appears to have no feelings and no fears. Four inspires Tris to perservere in her new faction, Dauntless. In dauntless they are brave and tough and wear black to symbolise what they stand for. Four and Tris share a romantic connection. Four joined dauntless to get away from his abusive father and to become brave and not stand down.
