Self concept, self esteem and self image
  1. Self concept means how you see yourself and how others see you.
    1. Self esteem means how you feel about yourself
      1. Self image means how you see yourself.
        1. The nine factors are: Emotional Development, Appearance, Age, Relationships, Life Experiences, Gender, Culture, Sexual Orientation and Education.
          1. Sexual Orientation might affect someones development because people may make them feel ashamed about being gay or bisexual and this might cause them to isolate themselves because they are ashamed and feel different from others. They may have low self esteem because they might not feel anyones there to support them and they may be scared that they will get bullied.
            1. Culture might affect someones development because if someone from another country comes to England and they have different traditions and beliefs than those living in England then the may feel ashamed and different because everyone is acting differently than those in their own country. If they wear clothes that cover their bodies and everyone in England is wearing lots of revealing clothes and they eat foods that they are not allowed to eat then they may isolate themselves because they are not able to join in with others.
              1. Appearance can affect someones development because teenager often feel the most pressure to be skinny and pretty due to their peers, their environment and media. They may often feel uncomfortable about the way they look and they may often get ill because they are trying to fit in and they are depriving themselves of the nutrients they need to be skinny and to fit in.
                1. Age may affect someones development because as you are younger then you may often listen to your family but as you get older then you live life to the full because you realise you don't have much time left. Adolescents may feel pressured and they often rely on their peers because their friends are the closest connection that they have at that life stage.
                  1. Gender can affect people because steriotypically, women were to stay at home, do the housework and take care of the children whilst the men went to work. If the women were expected to stay at home now then that may make the womens self esteem low because the partner would do nothing to help them and they may feel like they are taken advantage of.
                    1. Emotional Development can affect someone because teenagers are under a lot of stress due to exam pressure and their self esteem may be low if they feel like they will fail their exams. If they pass their exams then their self esteem will be high and they will be really happy.
                      1. Life experiences may affect someone because if they were to go on holiday and come back with tans then their self esteem would be high because they are able to go on holiday.
