Effective Note Taking
  1. Put It in your own words
    1. Selection of medium of note taking:
      1. Paper/ Hand Written
        1. As more time is put into writing each individual word on paper, it makes information easier to recall
          1. Remember to have clear pages and a good, trustworthy pen
          2. Computer/ Typed up
            1. Speed advantage over paper
              1. More likely to write information word for word
                1. Prepare a good note taking app like OneNote.
                  1. Clear any distractions/ websites that are not relevant to the topic at hand
                  2. Distractions like Social Media
                2. Must be full of useful information without any excess information that is not relevant and doesn't matter
                  1. Look at the syllabus beforehand to gauge general topics.
                    1. Try to take mental notes of the various questions in tests
                      1. Pay attention to summaries, overviews and conclusions
                        1. Use bullet points to get straight to the point
                          1. Write down definitions and examples
                            1. Write down every single step of the examples alongside why the concepts being used work
                          2. METHODS
                            1. Outline
                              1. This is framing of the Outline Method
                                1. Remember to bold or highlight certain information to make it stand out if it is more important than the other information under an idea or theme
                              2. Cornell
                                1. This is the framing of the Cornell Method.
                                  1. In the notes section, write your actual notes, you can even use the Outline Method within this box
                                    1. If there were any questions asked by the teacher in reference to the test, write it in the cues box
                                      1. The summary section will only be filled in after the lesson you wrote the notes on is over.
                                        1. The summary box is just a 1 or 2 sentence summary of the biggest themes and ideas covered
                                  2. Mindmapping
                                    1. This is the framing of the Mind-mapping Method
                                      1. Like the Outline Method, topics and themes are branched off into notes, keywords and their definitions and smaller ideas and themes.
                                        1. It is like a non-linear version of the Outline Method
