    1. from December 2010 there were a series of floods occurring in Queensland, Australia, where 16 lives sadly ended because of high levels of water.(in certain places) this ended is January 2011. this recently happened in Queensland with 70 towns flooded and its capital city Brisbane, central and western Victoria as well.(69 towns flooded) floods mostly happen around central and western New South Wales
      1. the floods are caused by high levels of rainfall. floods can be started by melting snow, or they are often caused by tropical cyclones , tsunami or food happening at the same time.
        1. damage was originally estimated at around $$1 billion, before it was raised to $2.38billion
        2. impacts
          1. economics
            1. during floods ( mainly flash floods) roads, bridges, farms, houses,and types of transportation are broken, destroyed and demolished into bits.
              1. in fact 35 deaths, 5000 people left homeless due to high fast water levels that was continuously flowing to them. (this can make people sick drown and die.) all these come at a large cost of $7-10 billion
              2. environment
                1. the environment also suffers when floods happen. chemicals and other stiff end up in water and sometimes pollute the river streams that floods end up in, this means many marine animals are dying due to pollution
                2. soacil
                  1. when floods happen, everyone is brought together and tries to stay safe under the worst conditions. lives, belongings are gone and lost, buildings are damaged and everything that was really important to people are ruined.
                3. responces
                  1. the Queensland government is joining with other people and the Australian government , to not only keep Queensland safe, but think of some ideas to improve and change before the following wet season. groups and helpers basically restored communities affected by the the flood
                    1. the immediate reaction was to protect those at danger from the floods. disaster supplies were set up while groups organized the clearing out of the individuals and property.
