Waves
  1. MECHANICAL WAVES - require a medium to travel through and is made when a source of energy causes a vibration.

    Annotations:

    • Must travel through a *medium* and can not travel in space. Medium: The matter (solid, liquid, & gas) a wave travels through.
    1. Transverse Waves - wave that causes the medium to vibrate at right angles to the direction of the wave.

      Annotations:

      • Wave Travels: down to up ↑ Energy Travels: left to right →
      1. Surface Waves - wave that travels along a surface separating two media.

        Annotations:

        • Wave Travels: circular motion (both → and ↑) Energy Travels: left to right →
        1. Longitude Waves - wave in which vibration of medium is parallel to the direction wave travels.

          Annotations:

          • Wave Travels: left to right → Energy Travels: left to right →
        2. ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES - come from the sun and require no medium.

          Annotations:

          • These waves don't necessarily have to go through matter; this means they can travel through space.
          1. Radio Waves

            Annotations:

            • - The LONGEST wave length - The LEAST energy and frequency - The SAFEST type of wave
            1. Microwaves
              1. Infrared Waves
                1. Visible Light Waves
                  1. Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet

                    Annotations:

                    • ROY G BIV
                  2. X-Rays
                    1. Gamma Rays

                      Annotations:

                      • - The SHORTEST wave - The MOST energy - The MOST DANGEROUS type of wave
