### Description

Describe mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves. LOOK AT THE NODES BECAUSE THEY HAVE IMPORTANT INFORMATION.

## Resource summary

Waves
1 MECHANICAL WAVES - require a medium to travel through and is made when a source of energy causes a vibration.

Annotations:

• Must travel through a *medium* and can not travel in space. Medium: The matter (solid, liquid, & gas) a wave travels through.
1.1 Transverse Waves - wave that causes the medium to vibrate at right angles to the direction of the wave.

Annotations:

• Wave Travels: down to up ↑ Energy Travels: left to right →
1.1.1
1.2 Surface Waves - wave that travels along a surface separating two media.

Annotations:

• Wave Travels: circular motion (both → and ↑) Energy Travels: left to right →
1.2.1
1.3 Longitude Waves - wave in which vibration of medium is parallel to the direction wave travels.

Annotations:

• Wave Travels: left to right → Energy Travels: left to right →
1.3.1
2 ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES - come from the sun and require no medium.

Annotations:

• These waves don't necessarily have to go through matter; this means they can travel through space.

Annotations:

• - The LONGEST wave length - The LEAST energy and frequency - The SAFEST type of wave
2.1.1
2.2 Microwaves
2.2.1
2.3 Infrared Waves
2.3.1
2.4 Visible Light Waves
2.4.1 Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet

Annotations:

• ROY G BIV
2.4.1.1
2.5 X-Rays
2.5.1
2.6 Gamma Rays

Annotations:

• - The SHORTEST wave - The MOST energy - The MOST DANGEROUS type of wave
2.6.1
