Resistance
Potential Difference
voltmeter measures the potential difference
it is parallel with the bulb so it measures the pd across it
when charge flows steadily through a component
ammeter measures the current through the torch bulb
connected in series with the bulb so the current through them is the same
Reversing current through a component reverses the pd across it
Potential difference graphs
a graph that proves ohms law
a straight line through the origin means the current is directly proportional to the pd
Filament bulb = resistance increases with increase of the filament temperature
Diode = 'forward' resistance low; 'reverse' resistance high.
Thermistor = resistance decreases if its temperature increases
LDR = resistance decreases if the light intensity on it increases
Resistance
Ohm's law: the current through a resistor at constant temperature is directly proportional to the potential difference across the resistor
