  1. THE 10 COMMANDMENTS
    1. 1. I am the Lord your God, you shall not have other gods before me
      1. Image must not be worshipped , people mustn't follow other Gods or follow things as though they were Gods Eg Magic, money, power or sex 'No servant can serve two masters'
        1. 2. You shall not take the Lord your God in Vain
          1. Respect God's name by blessing and praising it. promises made in the name of God are a religious vow and should be kept.
            1. 3. Remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy
              1. The Sabbath is a day to be kept Special and for worshipping God. Christians should remember Sunday as the day of Christ's Resurrection. it is called the day of the lord.
                1. 4. Honour your father and mother
                  1. Children owe reapect to their parents and should show gratitude and obedience. Adult children should care for their parents and provide support in illness, loneliness or old age.
                    1. 5. You shall not kill
                      1. The commandment forbids murder, abortion, euthanasia and suicide. 'killing threatens peace and Christians are called to be peacekeepers'
                        1. 6. You shall not commit adultery
                          1. Chastity is a moral virtue, it requires prayer and self knowledge. adultery is an example of unchastity.. 'the spirt is willing the body is weak. '
                            1. 7. You shall not steal
                              1. Stealing shows a lack of respect for the work and effort of others.
                                1. 8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour
                                  1. Chrisatains are called to live truthfully. the commandment forbids perjury, lying, slander, defamation and malilious speech.
                                    1. 9. You shall not covet your neighbours wife
                                      1. linked to 6. Christians must seek pure heart and modesty to protect and respect each humans dignity.
                                        1. 10. You shall not covet our neighbours possessions
                                          1. christain must respect the property of others. materilisem and greed is wrong 'poor in spirt' encourages people to not become attached to possessions
      2. RELEVANCE TODAY
        1. AGAINST
          1. Its out of date 3.5 thousand years old. culture and lifestyle has changed and many modern issues are not referenced in the bible. eg cyber bulling abuse and IVF.
            1. No 3 cannot not always be keft. some people have to work to keep their jobs/provide for their families.
          2. FOR
            1. They are the word of God,, found in the bible. There should be no time limit on their relevance.
              1. In the current Climate (recent terror attacks) no 5 is especially important. we al need to respect the sanctity of human life
                1. No 7 is backed up by our law system which shows relevance.
                  1. 6. In todays world this commandment keeps people faithful and shows them the importance of marriage.
        2. THE BEATITDUES
          1. 1. Blessed are the poor in sprit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven
            1. Poverty is real and is a good thing (living without possessions) christains shouldn't get caught up in material goods, they should completely relay on good. RYM, the poor widow.
              1. 2. blessed are the meek, for they inherit the earth
                1. Christians should be humble and gentle, they should put others before themselves. 'the first will be last and the last will be first'
                  1. 3. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
                    1. show compassion and feel empathy towards those who mourn.
                      1. 4. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
                        1. Christians should strive for justice throughout the world. they should know that true happiness and satisfaction can only come from God
                          1. 5. Blesses are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
                            1. Christians should ask for forgiveness throw the lords prayer. they would bless the forgiven and they will be forgiven. Jesus on the cross forgives the people saying 'they do not know what they do'
                              1. 6. Blessed are the pure I the heart, for they will see God.
                                1. Christian's should be pure of heart and fair to others, they should be honest and clean.
                                  1. 7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
                                    1. Christians should releve conflict and know te difference between right and wrong. They should be mediators and resolve wars.
                                      1. 8. Blessed are you when [people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinda of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
                                        1. Christian's should know that the path to holiness is hard bu the reward is eternal happiness with God. Jesus suffered in Gethsemane.
            2. RELEVANCE TODAY
              1. FOR
                1. There is no need for them, the 10 commandments tell us everything we need to know.
                  1. they are a bit vague and are open to misinterpretation, the commandments are easyier to follow.
                    1. They are outdated society and life has moved on christens have new problems. eg drugs, addictions, abortion, gay marriage.
                2. AGAINST
                  1. They guide Christians spiritually and morally. they is still precaution goin on and these [people will be rewarded in heaven.
                    1. They can be appilled to everyday life, and teach people how to be better, that they shouldn't be materialistic.
