What do I use a Concept Map for?

Organizing Ideas
1. Show the relationship between ideas
2. Brainstorm patterns
3. Use a logical layout
Creating Search Terms
1. Use boolean operators to connect terms and create a search phrase
  1. AND
  2. OR
  3. NOT
2. Combine the parts of your map together to search
  1. Related ideas
  2. Main ideas
  3. Examples/Evidence
  4. Details
3. Everything on your map can make a great keyword!
  1. If one search doesn't work, try another combination!
Outlining a Paper
1. Use each main topic as a paper section
  1. Use related topics for paragraphs
    1. Include your examples/evidence
2. Don't leave out any important info!
3. Organize arguments
Keeping Track of Research
1. Add new ideas as you find them
  1. Stay organized!
2. Make connections between research found at different times
  1. Keeps you from losing sources/ideas
3. List sources that relate to research
  1. Include citation info
    1. Use the right format: MLA, APA, Etc.
  2. Help you create your bibliography
  3. Write them down now, so you won't have to look for them later
