Resource summary
1945-1955
WW2
1.2 million black Americans fought
The northern black soldiers were often trained in southern training camps, they had never witnessed racial segregation like this before !
Even when at the place of war they were still segregated, with less training and worse equipment !
The white soldiers from Europe treated them as heroes
The black soldiers faced the ironic contradiction that they were fighting a war abroad for equality where as they didnt even have that at home !
This brought the introduction of the 'double v' logo, meaning they were fighting for 2 victories, the one in Germany and the one back home.
The major uncovering of the concentration camps in Germany convinced many that racism want noble or natural but a serious crime
