presentation
1. delay in acquisition of motor skills e.g.
  1. head control
  2. rolling
  3. sitting
  4. abnormal gait
  5. asymmetry of of hand use
    1. normally, hand dominance not acquired until 1-2 years or later
    2. always abnormal if during 1st year
      1. may suggest underlying hemiplegia
  6. involuntary movements
  7. loss of motor skills
    1. rare
  8. abnormal motor signs on examn
  9. late walking
    1. >18 months old
    2. needs to be differentiated from kids how display normal locomotor variants
      1. commando crawling
      2. bottom shuffling
      3. walking occurs later than with crawlers
causes
1. central motor deficit
  1. cerebral palsy
2. congenital myopathy/primary muscle disease
3. spinal cord lesions
  1. e.g. spina bifida
4. global developmental delay
  1. syndromes
  2. unknown cause
