1 Why is structured care important?
1.1 Recognise normal pregnancy
1.1.1 minimal intervention
1.2 Recognise where specialist support needed
2 Aims of antenatal care
2.1 detect/ manage maternal conditions
2.2 Prevent/ detect/ manage fetal complications (IUGR, preterm labour, anomalies)
2.3 Prevent/ detect/ manage maternal complications (pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes)
2.4 Assess maternal/ fetal wellbeing and provide advice/ education on pregnancy, health promotion, lifestyle and parenting
3 FIRST TRIMESTER
3.1 First contact with healthcare professional

3.3 Food hygiene i.e. non-pasteurised milk, blue cheese, pate and liver
3.4 Lifestyle advice (SMOKING CESSATION)
