  1. CHILDREN
    1. never share confidential information about a child or family with a person who has no legitimate need for knowing
      1. obeying relevant laws (especially those regarding child abuse)
        1. respecting the rights of children with disabilities.
          1. Teachers are legally mandated to report suspected child abuse and have an ethical responsibility to do so.
          2. COLLEAGUES
            1. collaborate with colleagues on their own classroombased research, investigate ways to improve their own practices, participate in conferences, and stay current by reading and discussing publications and Internet sites.
            2. FAMILIES
              1. “In cases where family members are in conflict with one another, we shall work openly, sharing our observations of the child, to help all parties involved make informed decisions. We shall refrain from becoming an advocate for one party”
                1. Acknowledge families’ child-rearing values and their right to make decisions for their children.
                2. SOCIETY
                  1. Early childhood educators are also effective advocates for children and the profession. They know about the central policy issues in the field, including professional compensation, financing of the early education system, and standards for curriculum and assessment.
