Why we need more college readiness...
1. Employers are complaining about the inadaquate preperation of high school graduates
2. Students are taking remedial classes in their college areer
3. Increase student performance and reduce drop out from higher education
How to achieve student college readiness...
1. States to adopt state-developed standards for English and Math that align with college standards
2. Giving teachers and principals the resources to support student success.
3. Improve quality of assessment system
4. Teach more rigorous content
5. Put teachers in positions that benefit their strengths
What this will achieve for society as a whole...
1. Students will be more prepared for college, and will take less remedial courses
2. Students will have a more fair chance to attend higher education because of preparation
3. Generally society with benefit from more educated citizens
What this means for us as educators...
1. More funding
2. Change in assesments
3. More accountability
4. More need to help students that fall behind in rigorous course work
5. Larger resource pool
