C1.1 Atoms And Elements
Periodic Table
An atom is the smallest part of an element.
There are about 100 elements. Each one has its own symbols
All the elements are listed into groups in the periodic table. These are the vertical columns. The elements in a group have similar properties.
C1.2
At the centre of an atom is a necleus which is made up of protons and neutrons. Outside the necleus are even smaller particles called electrons.
Overall a atom has no electrical charge because it has an equal number of positive protons and negative electrons.
