TYPES OF BLOOD VESSELS

  3. Valves present
    1. prevents back flow
  4. Lower pressure
3. Capillaries
  1. Smallest vessel
  2. Extremely narrow
  3. 1 layer thick
  4. Carry blood from artery to vein
  5. Gaseous exchange & nutrients occur
Blood
1. platelets
2. Red blood cells
3. white blood cells
4. Plasma
stroke volume- the amount of blood pushed through the vains after one beat
Heart Rate
1. maximunm heart rate is calculated by 220 - age
  1. Anorobic (without oxygen)
    1. 80% to 90%
  2. Aerobic (with oxygen)
    1. 60% to 80%
Cardiac Output- the amount of blood pumped y the hear per minute (heart rate x stroke volume)
Blood pressure
1. Amount of force being pushed against vessel walls
2. systolic pressure- pushes blood out (contracting)
3. diastolic- heart at rest (lower pressure than systolic)
4. High blood pressure
  1. Angina- pain in chest due to lack of oxygen
  2. Heart attack- being starved of oxygen
  3. Strokes- brain is starved of oxyegen
5. Can be reduced by
  1. regular exercise
  2. maintaining healthy body weight
  3. eating less salts
  4. not smoking- causes reduced efficency
  5. avoiding stress and worries
6. Blood pressure can be effected by
  1. Age
  2. Gender
  3. Stress
  4. Exercise
Pulmonary carrys deoxygenated blood to lungs
Systolic carrys oxygenated blood around the body
