  1. Environmental
    1. Large amounts of electricity are wasted on cooling computer hardware
      1. Disposal of old devices can cause issues when left in landfill
        1. Companies are trying to promote electrical recycling
          1. It is often cheaper to send products to other countries for disposal
            1. Data Centres can be improved to use 88.9% less electricity
              1. New data centres are being built in colder countries to reduce cooling costs
                1. Electricity is often created with fossil fuels - a non-renewable resource
                  1. Recent statistics suggest that the UK throws away 2 million tonnes of recyclable electronics each year
                    1. Most components within an electronic device can be reused or melted down to help create other products
                    2. Ethical
                      1. Until recently there were very few restrictions on computer systems
                        1. New regulations ensure: All users have an obligation to public interest, they maintain professional competence and integrity, they have a duty to the relevant authority and to the profession.
                        2. Legal
                          1. Data Protection Act
                            1. Data must be processed fairly
                              1. It can only be used for the purpose they said it will
                                1. They should only hold data they actually need
                                  1. Data must be accurate and up-to-date
                                    1. Data must not be held longer than needed
                                      1. Data will be used in accordance with your rights
                                        1. Data will be kept safe
                                          1. Data will not be transferred to another country that doesn't have similar laws
                                            1. Helps users data to stay personal and protected
                                            2. The Computer Misuse Act
                                              1. Tries to restrict unauthorised access to computer systems
                                                1. Attempting to breach a system
                                                  1. Especially with the intention of taking personal data to impersonate someone else or impair their system
                                                  2. Breach of a system with the intention to change the data can result in a Jail Sentence of up to 10 years
