Dracula OutlineKim ColettiMiss SaulineEnglish 2 Honors, period 310 September 2013Thesis statement: still decidingTopic sentence #1: Superstitious practices are the people's way of feeling safe from Dracula.CD: I must say they were not cheering to me, for amongst them were "Ordog"--Satan, "Pokol"--hell, "stregoica"--witch, "vrolok" and "vlkoslak"--both mean the same thing, one being Slovak and the other Servian for something that is either werewolf or vampire. (Mem., I must ask the Count about these superstitions.)" (14) CD: "As he [Van Helsing] placed the Wafer on Mina's forehead, it had seared it - had burned into the flesh as though it had been a piece of white hot metal." (327)CD: “First he fastened up the windows and latched them securely; next, taking a handful of the flowers he rubbed them all over the sashes, as though to ensure that every whiff of air that might get in would be laden with the garlic smell. Then with the wisp he rubbed all over the jamb of the door, above, below, and at each side, and round the fireplace in the same way.” (Stoker 158).     Topic sentence #2: Catholicism is almost imperative to the people in hopes of not having to come in contact with Dracula. CD: "My only comfort is that we are in the hands of God." (378)CD: "...we knowing that so far as symbols went, she with all her goodness and purity and faith, was outcast from God." (327)CD: "...and taking a crucifix from her neck, offered it to me."Closing thoughts: Catholicism is still a very popular religion today. We still use crosses to show our faith and how Jesus died on the cross for us. Also, we use communion, just like placing the communion on Mina's forehead. Although, we don't really have superstitious beliefs, nor do we use Catholicism to prevent supernatural occurrences.
