steps;1. lable your sides 2. sqaure a3. then b4. add the two numbers together5. then sqaure root the answer 

if when labling your sizes you only have B and C you have to re arange the formula and have too take C sqaured away from B sqaured.

Example; 

Here we do;;4 X 4 + 6 X 6 = 16 + 36 = 52then we sqaure root 5252 squared rooted = 7.2

C is always the hypotenuese
