This article does a really good job of introducing hiragana, in my opinion, and I strongly suggest you go through it.

Since I started without help, I personally took several months to become confident with hiragana, and I'm not excepting you to be instantly good, especially without much practice early on.

The more you practice using it, whether it be reading or writing, the more you'll get the hang of it.
