Hechos y verdades absolutas

Se puede sustituir "IF" por "WHEN"

Se usa un imperativo para dar órdenes

EJ. : If you put ice into water, it floats

EJ. : When you put ice into water, it floats

EJ. : If ypu are hungry, have an apple

FIRST CONDITIONAL

IF + PRESENT SIMPLE + WILL + INFINITIVE

Situaciones posibles o reales en el futuro

Expresar amenazas y promesas

Se puede sustituir "WILL" por otros verbos modales

EJ. : If it rains, we won't go to the park, we'll go to the cinema

EJ. : Joe will be angry if you dop that

EJ. : If all the flights to Madrid are full, you can take the train

WILL es parte de la consecuencia, NO de la condición

SECOND CONDITIONAL

IF + PAST SIMPLE + WOULD + INFINITIVE

Situaciones poco probables en el presente o en el futuro

Dar consejos

Se puede sustituir "WOULD" por otro verbo modal

EJ. : Would you be happier if you had more money?

EJ. : If I were you, I'd talk to the boss

EJ. : We could go to the theatre tonight if you wanted to

Se suele usar WERE en vez de WAS con los pronombes I / He / She / It

EJ. : If Sally were here, she'd know what to do

THIRD CONDITIONAL

IF + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE + WOULD + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE

Condiciones del pasado totalmente imposible o hipotéticas

EJ. : If we had had more time, we'd have visited a couple of museums

Se puede sustituir "WOULD HAVE" por "COULD HAVE" o "MIGHT HAVE"

Situaciones que lamentamos

EJ. : If I hadn't said that, Stuart wouldn't have been so angry with me

EJ. : If you had told me about the concert, we could have bought tickets

WISH & IF ONLY

Para referirse a situaciones que se quieren cambiar

Con el pasado simple o continuo para expresar un deseo en el presente

EJ. : I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow

Con el pretérito pluscuamperfecto para lamentarse de algún acontecimiento pasado

Se usan con WOULD seguido de un infinitivo para quejarse acerca de alguien

EJ. : I wish you wouldn't make so much noise

EJ. : I wish we had had the air conditioning installed
