    • Prokaryotes:
    • Coccus
    • Bacillus
    • Spirochete
  2. Slide 2

    • Coccus
    • A coccus is any bacterium that has a spherical, ovoid, or
    • generally round shape. It is one of the three distinct bacterial shapes,
    • the other two being bacillus and spiral-shaped cells.

  3. Slide 3

    • Baccilus
    • A bacillus is a genus of Gram-positive, rod-shaped bacteria and a
    • member of the phylum Firmicutes. Bacillus species can be obligate
    • aerobes, or facultative anaerobes.

  4. Slide 4

    • Spirochete
    • A spirochete is a flexible spirally twisted bacterium, especially one that causes syphilis.

    • Appendages
    • Flagella
    • Fimbriae
    • Conjunction pili
  6. Slide 6

    • Flagella
    • A flagellum is a whip-like structure that
    • allows a cell to move. They are found in all three domains of the living
    • world: bacteria, archaea, and eukaryota, also known as protists,
    • plants, animals, and fungi. While all three types of flagella are used for locomotion, they are structurally very different.

  7. Slide 7

    • Fimbriae
    • A fimbria (plural fimbriae) is a Latin
    • word that literally means "fringe." It is commonly used in science and
    • medicine, with its meaning depending on the field of study or the
    • context.

  8. Slide 8

    • Conjugation pili
    • Schematic drawing of bacterial conjugation. 1- Donor cell produces pilus. 2- Pilus
    • attaches to recipient cell, brings the two cells together. 3- The
    • mobile plasmid is nicked and a single strand of DNA is then transferred
    • to the recipient cell.

  9. Slide 9

    • Animal Cells
    • *Lysosomes
    • *Centrioles
    • *Chloroplasts
    • *Plasmaodesmata
    • Plant Cells
    • *Central Vacuole
    • *Cell Wall
  10. Slide 10

    • Cyanobacteria are prokaryotes. They lack inner organization and structure. They do not have organized chloroplasts, but they do have Thylakoid discs which perform photosynthesis.
    • However, Cyanobacteria has a hard outer Capsule which the Plant cell does not have.
    • Cyanobacteria also have a Cell Wall like Plant Cells.

  11. Slide 11

    • Insulin is a protein so you would need all the organelles used in protein synthesis:
    • Ribosomes
    • Rough ER
    • Golgi Apparatus
    • Secretory Vesicles
    • Insulin is the receptor needed for a receptor protein channel to allow Glucose into Liver Cells. Once Insulin binds to the receptor site the protein opens and allows glucose to diffuse in.
