    2) Empathetic Listening- Used to build a relationship with the other person by going beyond feeling sympathy and trying to understand the person.
    Examples:
Critical Listening- You would use this for instance if you were put on stand in court and the opposing lawyer asks you a question in which you would decide carefully how to answer.
Empathetic Listening- You would use this for instance if your best friend was telling you about how their grandmother just passed away.

  11. 11Define: Pseudolisteningto pretend to listen. This is the most noneffective way to communicate because after the conversation you will not have gotten any information from what was said proving pseudo-listening to be very ineffective way to communicate.
  12. 12Define: Insensitive Listeningthese type of listeners take the speakers' words at face value - they don't take into consideration the words not being spoken and behavior being exhibited that perhaps the speaker is communicating more than the words that are actually spoken
  13. 13Define: Defensive Listeningthis listener thinks the speaker is out to get them and reads into every word that is being said to try to decipher if they feel it is a personal insult
  14. 14Define: Critical ListeningAnalyzing information/message you've received and then deciding if you accept or reject the message
  15. 15Define: Insulated Listeningthe cold shoulder style - this listener fails to hear or acknowledge the speaker when they don't want to discuss a topic and the speaker starts talking about the subject anyway
