- 1What is software testing?an activity designed to show that a software does what it is intended to do and uncover faults before put it into use
- 2What are the objectives of software testing?-Demonstrate that the software meets it requirements. Using the specification to create tests.
-Find inputs where behaviour of the software is incorrect or undesirable E.g. system crashes or wrong outputs - 3Cons of testing?• Cannot say that the system is free of defects errors can hide other errors
• Or it will behave as specified in every circumstance
• Expensive & time consuming - 4What is black box & white box testing?Black box - Tester does not know about internal working of software. Evaluates functionality not the code structure.
White box - Based on checking internal code structure and structure is known by the tester - 5What are the 3 stages of testing that software goes through?Development testing - where system is tested during development to discover faults/bugs
Release testing - separate testing team tests complete version of system before released checks to see if requirements are met
User testing - users tests the system in own environment and then accepted - 6What are the 3 types of development testing?1. Unit testing
2. Component testing
3. System testing - 7What is unit testing?-Where individual program units/object classes are tested
-Focus on testing the functionality of objects or methods
-Uses test cases to test - 83 steps of how Unit testing is done?1. Arrange: setup the test data(expected inputs/outputs)
2. Act: call your method under test
3. Assert that the expected results are returned(compare the results from expected if true pass if false fail) - 9Unit testing best practices?F.I.R.S.T Tests
Fast - so can be repeated many times
Independent - test just one thing
Repeatable - can be done many times
Self-validating - validate it self
Timely - should be efficient - 10What is component testing + goal?-Where several individual units are integrated to create composite components.
-Focus on testing component interfaces to show they behave according to specfication
-Find errors in the interactions of the components - 11What is system testing + goal?-Where components in a system are integrated and the system is tested as a whole
-Focus on testing component interactions
-Checks it interacts correctly & transfer right data - 12What is test driven development?Approach where testing and code development is interleaved.
You don't start next increment until code you developed passes all tests. - 13What is Test coverage?Measure the amount of testing executed on the code
Gives info about covered/uncovered areas in testing
Offers a quantitative measurement
Helps make decisions on the quality of the product - 14What are the limitations of test coverage?-manual testing takes lot of effort to analyse the requirements and create test cases.
-100% coverage doesn't mean 0 bugs as you are only testing one scenario - 15What is release testing?-Testing a release outside development team
-Black-box testing tests derived from spec
-Goal is to convenience the system is good enough for use - 16What is user testing?-Users test and provide input/advice
-Users test in their own environment as it can see reliability, performance and usability which cannot be done in testing environment - 17What is alpha user testing?users of software work with development team to test releases of software where developers sit
- 18What is beta testing?release of software is made available to users to test at own site and then feedback is given to developers
- 19What is acceptance testing?users test system and decide if should be accepted and deployed
