Analysiing qualitative data
Flashcards do conjunto (6)
- 1How do we analyse Qualitative Research-Grounded Theory
-Content Analysis
-Discourse Analysis
-Thematic Analysis
-Qualitative analytical techniques fall on a continuum from inductive to deductive - 2What are inductive and deductive/Inductive – the data comes before the theory
Deductive – the theory comes before the data - 3What are some things that are usually coded?Themes
Theoretical concepts
Key words
Participants’ narratives/stories
Participants’ values and interpretations of situations
Participants’ relationships, behaviours & state of mind - 4How are codes identified?Ask these questions of your data to understand better what is going on and to facilitate code formation:
What is going on?
What are people doing?
What is the person saying?
What do these actions and statements take for granted?
How do structure and context serve to support, maintain, impede or change these actions and statements? - 5What is content analysis?-This is the most deductive form of analysis
-Pre-existing categories are developed based on theory or previous research
-Textual info is systematically analysed
-Relevant quotes/passages are identified & categorised into existing themes
Word frequency (Quantitative)
Placement, ordering, context (Qualitative)
-Supports or challenges existing theory (e.g. feminist theory & underrepresentation of women in sport) - 6LOOK ON NOW AND PRACTICELOOK ON NOW 'SEMINAR' AND PRACTICE
