- 11magneticat-a-distance force
- 12frictioncontact force
- 13What force slows or restricts movement? Why?friction - rubbing
- 14ViscosityThe thickness or thinness of fluids and is determined based on a fluid's resistance to flow.
- 15Flow RateFlow rate is the measure of how quickly a fluid flows in a given amount of time.
- 16Adding heat energy to fluids can change their viscositywhen a liquid is heated the flow rate increases = less viscous
when a liquid is cooled the flow rate decreases = more viscous - 17Cohesiondescribes the attraction between particles within a single fluid
- 18Adhesiondescribes the attractive forces between particles of a fluid and another substance
- 19Densityrefers to the mass of a substance per unit volume of the substance
- 20Density =mass
______________
volume - 21Volume =mass
____________
density - 22Mass =Density X Volume
- 23Water Density =1.00 g/mL
(if there is a density less than this = float
if there is a density more than this = sink) - 24Buoyancy- displacement - a fluid is displaced (moved " out of the way") by an object placed on it
- at the same time the fluid pushes back in all directions on the object
-Buoyancy is the upward force on an object produced by surrounding fluid which is fully or partially immersed - 25Archimedes PrincipleThe buoyant force on am objet immersed in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid that the object displaces
