Processing errors e.g. programming error gone undetected - 3Define VerificationThe process of checking that data has been copied correctly from one media to another. It matches the original source.

Double entry- e.g. online banking form requires password to be entered twice OR 2 people enter same data so they should match
Sending back printouts- e.g. original goods bought online checked against confirmation email received - 5Define ValidationThe process of restricting data to make sure it is sensible and reasonable (might still be incorrect)

Type check- data is the expected type e.g. phone number
Range check- Data is between stated ranges
Format checks- Forces a particular format e.g. dates/postcode

Presence checks- there must be at least one character present in a particular place
Fixed Value- A specific criteria is expected or selection from a list
