- 1Alpha particles- it has two protons and two neutrons (no electrons) It has an electrical charge of 2+
- they are VERY ionising
- can be stopped by a sheet of paper - 2Beta particles- it is an electron, it has a negative charge (-1)
-moderately ionising
- can be stopped by 3mm thick aluminium - 3gamma rays- a form of electromagnetic radiation
- gamma rays are waves (not particles) therefore do no have a charge
- weakly ionising
- need thick lead to be stopped - 4Diagram comparison
