Comparisons with as ... as

To express similarity

Use as ... as with an adjective to indicate how two things are equal or the same. Use the adverb just for emphasis

Example

1. The new speakers are as good as the old ones.

2. Wooden desks are just as stylish as plastic desks

Use the adverb almost in affirmative statements to indicate that two things are very similar but not exactly the same

Example

1. The Zeta C is almost as fast as the Panasox

2. Trucks are almost as fast as cars

To express difference

Use not as ... as to indicate how things are different. Use not quite when the difference is very small. Use not nearly to indicate that there's a big difference

Example

1. Our new printer isn't as noisy as the old one

2. New computer isn't as noisy as the old one

3. The old monitor was great. But the new one is just s good
