1. Firewall

   • Firewall controls which programs can send and receive data packets.
   • You need to control which programs send and receive data because the program could be sending you malicious software or it may put a virus on the data you send it.
   • If you don't use Firewall, you may lose your school work, home or business work.
     • Your files may get corrupted, or if you send something to someone it may come back with a virus.
     • Your school may receive some data that they don't want to receive or their files may get corrupted .
     • Your business could also receive some data they don't want to receive or they may send something important to another person/ business/ company and it may come back corrupted.

2. Anti-virus

   • Anti-virus protects your computer from malicious software.
     • Malicious software such as virus', Trojan Horse, Zombie and Worm.
   • Anti-virus needs to be scanning your computer regularly because viruses can come at any time and so it can protect your data.
   • If you don't use anti-virus, you may lose school work, home or business work.
     • Your school may lose important data about students or tasks for students.
     • Your personal files may get deleted or corrupted.
     • Your business may lose important information that is essential.

3. Passwords

   • A password should have at least 8 characters.
   • A password should be made of numbers, letters (upper and lower case)and symbols.
   • Alpha numeric mix means a mix of letters and numbers.
   • A password shouldn't have a pattern because it will be easier to solve.

4. Encryption

   • Encryption allows you to keep things private by using a cipher.
   • To encrypt a message you make a cipher and then use that cipher to write a message.
   • To decrypt a message you have to look at the key (cipher) and figure out what it is.
   • We use encryption when we need to enhance security, to keep things private or to write secret messages.
   • You can tell if a website is using encryption if it has a padlock and it says 'Secure' near the URL.
   • Some websites don't use encryption because the police may need the messages/information for something but it may be harder to get it because the message/information is encrypted
   • The encryption we use in everyday life are in Whatsapp, bank apps and websites which require you to log on.
