TECHNIQUE
Glofish are a type of transgenic zebrafish that have been modified through the insertion of a green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene. There are several GFP genes that code for the different colour phenotype.
Fluorescent glofish are bred to protect environmental pollutants. Scientists can determine when a the waterway is contaminated.
HOW IT WORKS fluorescent colour is produced by a fluorescent protein gene. gene goes into the genome of the embryo, the developing fish will pass on the same genes to its offspring.
