Solving Equations

1. Strategy

   • 1- Clear Parenthesis by using distribution
     • 2- Take out denominators by multiplying all the eq by LCF
       • 3- Use add and sub properties to have terms with variables in one side
         • 4- Use multip/div properties to have the coefficient equal to one

2. Linear Equations

   • Equation with one answer = conditional Ex: x=5
     • Equation with no answer = contradiction/no solution Ex: 4=7

3. Rational Expressions

   • Equations with fractions
   • x is in the denominator
   • Verify that the solution works because sometimes the solution is extraneous (answer is 0)

4. Equations with powers/radicals

   • Isolate the terms raised to a power and then apply the opposite power to all the equation
     • √2x+1 = 2 (√2x+1)^2 = 2^2

5. Absolute Value Equations

   • Isolate the absolute values of the equation and split into two cases
     • 3x=2
     • 3x=-2

6. Literal Equations

   • Applying the already known strategies to solve an equation with letters

7. Literal Equations

   • Using all previous knowledge to solve an equation with letters
