Complement Proteins

1. Part of the innate immune system

2. Found in the blood vessels because they are soluble proteins

3. Function

   • Opsonization
   • Pathogen Lysis by MAC
   • Activation of inflammatory response
   • Clearance of immune complexes

4. Composed of more than 30 circulating and membrane-bounded proteins

5. Produced in the liver, other WBC and epithelial before travelling into the blood vessel

6. Circulate in an inactive form in blood vessels and is only activated when it comes across pathogens

7. It acts as a cascade event where one event must occur before another takes place
