2. Steps

   • 1. Opening Phase
     • Different techniques are aplplied
     • Interviews
     • Laying on the couch
     • Interpretation
       • Analyst’s noting supposed dream meanings, resistances and other significant behaviors and events in order to promote insight.
   • 2. The development of Transference phase
     • Awareness into the emergent transference and countertransference aspects of the ongoing relationship between the client and the therapist (Kumar, 2017)
     • Trasference
       • The patient’s transfer to the analyst emotions linked with other relationships.
   • 3. Working through phase
     • Working through client resistance
       • Resistances aim to prevent this development or to obstruct the analysis of the transfer (Kumar, 2017).

       • Blocking anxiety laden material from the conscious
   • 4. Resolution of the transference phase
     • After the goal is reached
       • The purpose of this phase is to resolve the client's neurotic attachment to the therapist (Kumar, 2017).

     • According to Freud the analysis of dreams is "the royal road to the unconscious" (McLeod, 2007).
