  1. to describe a habit in the past 'I used to'
    1. to describe the weather or people in the past 'it was...he/she was...'
      1. the equivalent of 'was -ing' in English e.g he was watching
    2. Take the 'nous' form of the present e.g 'nous allons'
      1. take off the ending and add the new endings
        1. the endings are: -ais, -ais, -ait, -ions, -iez, -aient
      2. examples:
        1. j'allais
          1. je jouais
            1. je finissais
            2. il mangeait
              1. tu regardais
                1. nous venions
          2. important verbs: j'avais / j'étais
