Star Topology

1. Advantages

   • Higher Cost
     • The large amount of cabling needed makes it expensive
   • Dependence on the central server

2. Disadvantages

   • Different speed are possible on different arms of the network
   • Load Tolerant
     • Extra computers can be added without much loss in performance because all computers have their own path to the server
   • Easy to add extra computers
     • Extra computers can be added without disturbing the network
   • Fault Tolerant
     • If one of the cable fails, then the other computers can still be used

3. A star topology is designed with each node connected directly to a central network hub, switch or concentrator.
