   • There are three types of persuasive discourse
     • Forensic or judicial rhetoric
     • Epidicteic or demonstrative rhetoric
     • Simbouleutikon or deliberative rhetoric

2. The rhetorical situation

   • Language use to persuade
     • It focuses on three main aspects
       • The audience
         • Be an audience friendly writer
           • You need to ask yourself
             • Who is my audience?
             • What does my audience care about ?
             • What does the audience know about this issue?
       • The writer
         • It focuses on
           • The evidence you are providing
             • The way you portray yourself
               • Expressing appropiate things
       • The issue
         • You want to be able to know
         • Where are the gaps?
         • What are the things that have not been said

3. How to organize a presentation

   • It needs a really good structure
     • introduction
       • Keep it concise and short
       • Starts from the general to the specific
       • Grab your audience attention
       • Show your expertise
       • Establish the thesis statement
     • Body
       • The main part of the presentation
         • You have to establish the principal points
         • Specify the points with words such as: " first", "second", "third.
         • The main points need a logical pattern
         • You need supporting details about the issue
     • Conclusion
       • A concluding sentence is required to inform your audience
         • You need to reinforce the thesis statement
           • Recapitulation is optional
