Polynomial Divisions Final
Characteristics
- The grade of the dividend D(x) is greater than or equal to the grade of the divisor d(x).
- Follows the laws of exponents
- In polynomial divisions we STOP dividing when the exponent of the denominator is greater than the numerator
POLYNOMIAL ÷ MONOMIAL
- If the divisor is a linear polynomial its a SYNTHETIC division.
- Numerical Example
Polynomial ÷ Polynomial (LONG DIVISION)
- The divisor is written outside the right parenthesis, while the dividend is placed within. The quotient is written above the bar on top of the dividend.
- Involves 5 steps: Divide , Multiply, Subtract, Bring down and Repeat or Remainder
- Numerical Example
Synthetic Division
- Shorthand method of polynomial division when dividing by a linear factor
- Divisor must be a polynomial of degree one
- Coefficient of the divisor variable (x) must be a one
