Second and Third Coditionals

1. Second Conditional

   • São usadas para se referir a situações que são hipotéticas, imaginárias, ou pouco comuns de acontecerem no passado e futuro.
   • Geralmente as second conditionals são formadas dessa forma: If + past simple + would + verb in the base form
     • EX: If Melissa knew that her internet was bad this morning, she would tell her students that they would not have class today.
   • Em situações mais informais, podemos usar WAS com os pronomes I< HE< SHE< IT.
     • EX: If I was her student, I would learn better and like more physics.
   • Em situações mais formais, podemos sempre usar WERE:
     • EX: If I were you, I would go to the doctor.

2. Third conditional

   • São usadas para falar sobre situações hipotéticas que não aconteceram no passado e suas possíveis consequências.
   • Elas são formadas por if clause e main clause. If clause são verbos no past perfect (passado simples). O main clause são verbos como would have, could have e might have.
     • If + past perfect + would have/could have/might have + past participle
       • Exemplos
         • If you had invited me, I would have made a cake for you.
         • If the traffic hadn't been so heavy, you wouldn't have missed the conference.
         • If she was a good student, would she be happy?
   • Algumas exceções da third conditional:
     • Quando você usa o IF no início da frase, você separa a frase em duas partes com a vírgula.
       • EX: If I had known you were feeling sad, I would have called you.
     • Já quando o IF está no meio da frase, não precisa usar vírgula.
       • EX: I wouldn't have taken the pills if my grandmother had given me that tea.
