What is engineering?

1. History

   • Important inventions
     • Ancient era
       • In this period of time we can find great architectural wonders:
         • it is worth mentioning other simple but very important mechanisms such as the screw, the lever and the pulleys with what later the Chinese and Roman army gave rise to the catapults
         • the lighthouse of Alexandria, the Egyptian and Mexican pyramids, the aqueducts, civilizations such as Alexandria and the Chinese wall
         • In addition the first hydraulic mechanisms were introduced to the world by the hand of the Persian empire such as the water mill and hydraulic wheel
     • Middle ages
       • The first machines based on wind energy are born as the windmill in the Muslim golden age
       • On the part of India, cotton processing machines such as the spinning wheel were produced.
       • Astronomical and tower clocks
     • European renaissance
       • The first fully functioning steam engine was built in 1712 by blacksmith Thomas Newcomen. The development of this device led to the industrial revolution in the coming decades, allowing the beginning of mass production.
       • With the rise of engineering as a profession in the 18th century, the term became more narrowly applied to fields in which mathematics and science were applied to these ends. Similarly, in addition to military and civil engineering, the fields then known as the mechanic arts became incorporated into engineering
     • Modern era
       • The discipline of Electrical Engineering was shaped by the experiments of Alessandro Volta in the 19th century, the experiments of Michael Faraday, Georg Ohm and others and the invention of the electric motor in 1872.
       • Aeronautical Engineering deals with aircraft design, while Aerospace Engineering is a more modern term that expands the scope envelope of the discipline to include spacecraft design.
       • Karl Benz creates the first prototype gasoline-based car in 1886 and Martin Cooper in 1947 the first approach to what are now mobile phones

2. Types

   • INDUSTRIAL
     • deals with the optimization of complex material and process processes, systems or organizations.
   • SYSTEMS
     • It allows studying and understanding reality, with the purpose of implementing or optimizing complex systems.
   • ELECTRIC
     • is the field of engineering that deals with the study and application of electricity, electromagnetism, electromechanics, and electronics to electrical power systems.
   • CIVIL

3. Traits

   • leadership
   • designs
   • build
   • develop
   • intelligent

4. Educational background of an Engineeer

   • A Engineering degree typically lasts 4-5 years, and an engineering program typically includes a lot of math, science courses, and lots of internships. In the first year you learn math and physics in general, maybe a computer programming course and most likely writing and/or surveying. In the second and third years, more courses in mathematics and structural analysis are held. You also learn a bit about design, codes and standards, as well as construction management and ethics.
     • Una parte muy importante de la formación de un ingeniero es el estudio las ciencias físicas básicas: Física, Química, Matemáticas.
