1. When an electricity charge flows through a resistor, the resistor gets hot.

2. Energy has been transformed from electrical energy into heat energy

3. Power (watts, W) = Energy transferred/transformed (Joules, J) Time Taken (Seconds, S)

   • P=E T

4. Power (Watts, W) = Current (Amperes, A) x Potential difference (Volts, V)

   • P = I x V

5. This heating effect occurs in all types of resistance not just resistors

   • therefore the cables themselves and all electrical devices generate heat depending on their resistance
