Macbeth (using the book)
Macbeth becomes arrogant and demanding after he killed the king. This can be seen by the way he speaks to the witches. He says, "dam'd those that trust them" which shows that Macbeth obviously wants no one to trust the witches however he was the first one to do this
Significance of the three aparitions give comfort to Macbeth
The aparitions appear in a symbolic form
Macbeth makes a joke out of the three aparitions - "that will never be: who can impress the forest bid the tree unfix his earth bound root"
Most of the play - iambic pentameter
Witches - trochaic tetrameter
'unsex me here' - forget about Lady Macbeths gender
'It is the bloody business'
'Fair is foul and foul is fair' - witches say that good is bad and bad is good
Act 3 Scene 1 - starts with a short solliloquy from Banquo - shows audience what he is thinking without actually saying it
- Banquo is suspicious on how Macbeth became king so quickly - "I fear thou playdst most foully for't" - alliteration of the 'f' sound suggest that he is clear in what he is thinking.
Witches speak in riddles - "fair is foul and foul is fair, hover through the fog and filthy air"
Keen to damage animals - "like a rat without a tail. I'll do, I'll do, I'll do.
'A dagger of the mind' - Macbeths mind playing tricks
Lady Macbeth says 'A little water will clear us off this deed' - wash your hands and it will all be gone. Dramatic irony as later on found out that she keeps washing her hands as she sees blood on them
Macbeth feels that the blood will never go. Blood on hands so severe he cant wash them in the ocean or the whole ocean will turn red
- Power of guilt and madness
