Zaretsky: Safe Haven
- Family are unaware of its spreading ruling class ideology.
Instead, proletariat family offers a safe haven from the
harsh and exploitative world of capitalism outside in which
workers can be private and be themselves.
- Eg. the family go on holidays
together and give emotional support.
- But this is only an illusion. Capitalism still benefits
from private activities of the family. For example,
family holidays ensure that even when workers are on
a break, the bourgeoisie still profit from high
expenses of the holiday.
