Types Of Rocks
  1. Metamorphic Rocks
    1. Examples- Are rocks that usually look like they have layers or have different coloured lines in a fresh cut of the rock.
      1. Definition- Rock that was once one form of rock but has changed to another under the influence of heat, pressure, or some other agent without passing through a liquid phase.
        1. Example- Marbled rocks are metamorphic alongside rocks like, quartzite and slate.
          1. How are they formed- Metamorphic rocks are created by the physical or chemical alteration by heat and pressure of an existing igneous or sedimentary material into a denser form.
            1. Simplified- Metamorphic Rocks are created when an already existing igneous or sedimentary material is physically or chemically altered by heat and pressure into a more thicker and heavier form
          2. Igneous Rocks
            1. Definition- Rocks that are formed through the cooling and solidification of Magma or Lava.
              1. How they are formed- Extrusive igneous rocks cool and solidify quicker than intrusive igneous rocks. They are formed by the cooling of molten magma on the earth's surface. The magma, which is brought to the surface through fissures or volcanic eruptions, solidifies at a faster rate.
                1. Extrusive and Intrusive definition- Extrusive Igneous Rocks come from the outer parts of a volcano and Intrusive Igneous Rocks come from the Inner part of the volcano.
                  1. Simplified- The igneous rocks that come from the outer parts of the volcano cool faster than the rocks that come form the inner parts of the volcano. Igneous rocks are formed by the cooling of very hot magma on the earths surface, the magma is brought to the surface of the earth through volcanic eruptions.
                  2. Example- Rocks like obsidian, scoria and tuff are all examples of Igneous rocks
                    1. Examples- When you are searching for Igneous rocks you usually look for coarse-grain type textured rocks.
                    2. Seditmentary Rocks
                      1. Definition- Rock that has formed through the deposition and solidification of sediment, especially sediment transported by water (rivers, lakes, and oceans), ice ( glaciers ), and wind.
                        1. How are they formed- Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediment is deposited out of air, ice, wind, gravity, or water flows carrying the particles in suspension. This sediment is often formed when weathering and erosion break down a rock into loose material.
                          1. Simplified- Sedimentary rocks are formed when sediment is out in the air, ice, wind, gravity or water flows carrying the particles in suspension. Sedimentary rocks are often formed by sediment weathering and eroded rocks that have broken down into loose material.
                          2. Examples- Sandstone, iron ore and shale are all examples of sedimentary
                            1. Examples- When searching for a Sedimentary rock people usually look for is little rock type crystals and/or sheen.
