1. There are three main outcomes of drowning they are:

   • 1. Death
     • 2. Injury
       • 3. No Injury

2. UK drownings by Location:

   • 63% Inland
     • 23% Coastal
       • 10% Domestic
         • 3%Swimming Pools
           • 1%Other

3. Wind Sock: orange sock shows direction and force of wind.

   • Black and White Flag: life guard supervision. Safest place for water sports.
     • Red Flag: these means that the waters for people to enter the water.
       • Red and Yellow Flags: lifeguard supervision. The safest area for swimming.

4. The SAFE Code

   • S: Spot the Dangers.
     • A: Advice, take lifeguard advice.
       • F: Friend, always go with company.
         • E: Emergency, it's time to call 999 or 112.

5. Examples of Hazards:

   • Sea and Coast: cliffs, tides, waves.
     • Inland Water Sites: weirs, dams, locks.

6. Pool rules:

   • No Running
     • No pushing/ducking.
       • No Acrobatics/diving.
         • No shouting/ antisocial behavior.
           • Pool Hazards:
             • Slippery floors and steps.
               • Depths/Diving areas.
                 • Inlet/outlet Pumps.
                   • Weather (outdoor)

7. Tombstoning:

   • You don't know what is under the water. You may injury yourself.
     • Wear appropriate kit and go with a professional.
       • That knows there is no danger underneath.

8. Beaches and it's hazards:

   • Sand:Low
     • Pebble:Medium
       • Rock:Moderate
         • Mud:High

9. Features:

   • Canals: Man-made, depth depends of use.
     • Locks: For boats to pass through.
   • Quarry Pools: scrap/pollutants in the water.
   • Tides: rise and fall of the water.
   • Coast: land meets the sea. It includes all beach and cliff areas.
