1. EDITING

   • lyrics are shown on the screen while the song is playing to give a greater impact to the audience as to the meaning of the lyrics after a certain part of Amy's life has been explained, which would relate to the song that is playing
   • the documentary is in chronological order so that the audience can understand the sequence of events and how one thing led to another, however there are a few flashbacks throughout the documentary
   • montages have also been used at the end of the documentary of Amy when she was young so that the audience can remeber for who she really was and not the drug addict that the media portrayed her as

2. MISE EN SCENE

   • COSTUME
     • Amy talks about how her manager and stylists tried to create an image for her but she wanted to keep her look the same and original to her, so she didn't take their advice.
   • MOVEMENT AND FRAMING
     • Most of the documentary is made from stock footage and archival footage so the filmmaker didn't have much say in how things were to be filmed, however this was his plan because he wanted to footage to be natural and for the audience to try and enter Amy's life
   • SETTING
     • The majority of the setting is in London, this is because this is where Amy grew up and did most of her early songs and performances, the setting then moves to America where she claims an award and meets her idol Tony Bennet

3. SOUND

   • Amy's music is mainly used as background music for the documentary. Lyrics are put onto the screen so that the audience realise that the song that is being played is in fact something that has happened in Amy's life and she talks about in her songs
   • Kapadia uses minimal voice over in this documentary, he does this so that the audience may not be influenced by his opinion as he wants to the leave the audience with an open ending and for them to raise questions

4. CINEMATOGRAPHY

   • The documentary is constructed from archival and stock footage, it also includes pictures and magazine articles from the part in Amy's life that is being discussed at that point in the documentary
   • most pictures used create unease in the audience because most of them show Amy while she was on drugs and portray her in a bad light, we feel unease because we have seen how she has changed.
